Week 37 -- 191.4
Week 36 -- 189.8 (Sunday)
Week 35 -- 191.4
--------------
Week 31 -- 190.4 (11.4 lbs in 10 weeks and total of 21 lbs after 30 weeks)
Week 21 -- 201.8 (5.6 lbs in 10 weeks and total of 9.6 lbs after 20 weeks)
Week 11 -- 207.4 (4 lbs after 10 weeks)
Week 1 -- 211.4 pounds (Starting Weight)
The battle continues this season of holidays and celebrations. I expect nothing different this week as it is New Years Eve followed by my last 3 days at my current job. The positive of it all is that overall I am maintaining and not overly gaining.
Again not a lot of activity this past week, I did shovel my parent's driveway on Wednesday eve, which was a good 1.5 hrs of exercise and amazing no soreness afterwards. My mother was sure I would be in great pain come Thursday, but I was moving around par normal.
It appears that I may need to go searching my suitcases of old clothes for smaller pants. Those I am wearing now are starting to get loose around the waist and fall. The problem, all my weight is disappearing from my hips and butt leaving nothing to hold up my pants because it is all above the waistline. It is good and bad all wrapped up together. I will count my blessings for the ability to lose weight and feel much better.
May your new year be full of great blessings and wonders! Trust me, my 35th year and 2013 are going to be one fantastic year. The Lord has blessed me, provided hope, and wonderful people in my life! Thanks again to all of you for following my blog, praying for me and my journey, and just being a spirit and beacon of light!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Saturday Smiles Veintiseis: Christmas Edition
Merry Christmas!!!
Christmas is my favorite time of year! The joy and happiness that surrounds Christmas, the birth of our savior, Jesus Christ, and the time celebrating with family and friends brings a constant smile to my face.
The past week, I have spent time with my family near and far, young and old. Christmas Eve, my mom's family continues to gather to celebrate Christ's birth and time with family. It is a joy sitting back and watching the 15 great-grandchildren running around and imagining how us 12 grandchildren were running around Paw-Paw and Woo-Woos house as little ones. The family continues to grow, and it is such a blessing that we still gather 16 years after Paw-Paw passed away just after Christmas and the birth of great-grandchild number 1. It was great to have all but one cousin and almost all the great-grandchildren present. I pray that this tradition continues for many more years to come.
Christmas, my father's family came over to our house for a Christmas lunch. The time with dad's family is very precious as my grandparents are aging and facing Alzheimer's and dementia.
Winter is my favorite season of the year. The cold crisp air and the beautiful white snow brings huge smiles to my face and makes me feel like a kid in a candy store. Therefore Wednesday morning when I woke at 5 am, I was out on the front steps taking pictures and wide awake. I went back asleep to wake at 8 am with a bit more snow on the ground to enjoy. Thankfully, it was not the blizzard that was anticipated but a good 4+ inches of nice packing snow.
Christmas, birth of Jesus, family, and snow...The Lord is giving!
What brought a smile to your face this week? I pray that you and your family had a blessed Christmas.
Have a Happy New Year!

Week 1 -- 211.4 pounds (Starting Weight)
Down a bit from last week but really just in maintenance mode through all these holiday, birthday, end of year, and change of job celebrations.
Tuesday last, I returned to the podiatrist. He prescribed a topical cream with several drugs mixed together. It was delivered to my doorstep with 24 hours of finalizing the details, which was amazing. The intention is to put it on 3 times a day, which is very difficult. I am really not sure how well it is or is not working. The foot is still in pain and I have not been exercising much.
Exercise...
Friday, I went to the gym and did 15 minutes on the bike and arm weights. I could tell that I have not lifted weights in awhile both while lifting and the day after. That was the extent of my workout this past week.
Tomorrow, I may get a good work out shoveling snow. I am patiently waiting the incoming blizzard. Currently, it is only rain and wind.
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!
Thanks again for following along in this journey!

Saturday Smiles Veinticinco: Career News & God's Plan
The Lord gives me peace of mind that 35 is going to be a wonderful year full of new things and great blessings!
Back in late October, I reflected on Listening to God's Plan: Life vs Career. The focus was on letting life depict the next career move. Intertwined together for happiness, the next career move has come a lot sooner than anticipated, but I truly feel God's plan at work and peace of mind.
On December 13th, I received a job offer, which I have accepted and start on January 7th. The peace that God has laid on my heart about this job is amazing. From the onset of learning more about the company and the position, I felt that the timing and the fit was just right. At first with some elements, I questioned the potential, but upon receiving the offer and answers to a serious of questions, it took no time for me to know that the time had come for one more transition.
The transition also provides me hope and peace of mind for the future and faith that God's plan is coming together. He reminded me about being patient to His timing, which is something I really need to remember as I await the next phase of His plan. I truly believe "that God’s plan and my dreams are unfolding and coming true right in front of me" as mentioned in the previous post. I look forward to sharing more about these unfolding dreams and God's plan in the days and months ahead.
In the meantime more about the new job, I will be a Business Analyst supporting a team of 3 IT developers and a QA (Quality Assurance) person and working with the business unit to develop and maintain quality programs and processes. The environment is very open and communicative with face to face communication being primary, perfect for me. The company is very supportive of its employees with daycare, workout facility, and cafeteria on-site. The vacation policy is amazing considering what I have today, and they are also very supportive of me taking off two weeks that I already had planned for the coming year. The ability to take time off to participate in mission trips means more to me than money can buy. Therefore, I look forward to Appalachia in the spring and Niagara Falls in the summer.
Thanks for following my blog and adventures! Have a very Merry Christmas!

Week 11 -- 207.4 (4 lbs after 10 weeks)
Week 1 -- 211.4 pounds (Starting Weight)
A little too many goodies this past weekend, especially on Sunday, resulted in increased weight on Monday. Lack of exercise probably also is not helping.
Foot update...Still having issues and pain in the right heel. I returned to the podiatrist and am receiving a topical cream full of multiple items tomorrow. The plan is to apply 3 times a day to see what happens with the pain. Hopefully, things will clear up by the New Year's Eve when I am set to start my mini-marathon training plan.
On Sunday, I obtained my mini-marathon schedule from SK. It is set to start on 12/31 and go forward to the completion of the Derby mini-marathon on April 27. If all goes well in January, I will sign-up before the end of the month.

Saturday Smiles Veinticuatro: 35th Birthday Edition
"Don't count the candles -- count the many
people whose lives you've touched just by being you."
-- Quote from birthday card from friends
"I wanted to get you a birthday card that says how glad I am that we're friends... how terrific you are... And how I hope this birthday's your best one yet!" -- Quote from birthday card from my neighbors
The past week has been full of reminders of all the wonderful friends and family that I have in my life. Even if at times life may feel lonely, the reminder was clear this past week that I am not alone and will not be alone in this world.
Sunday morning meant so much as I sat at the kitchen table with two friends, RP & KP, enjoying a nice breakfast and conversation before they headed home. The feeling of family and just being able to hang out, relax, and enjoy each others company. We also had a great time the night before playing games until 3 am. Yes, 3 am!! Needless to say Sunday after about 3 hours of sleep, I was barely functioning. But the time with RP, KP, JS, and LJ was all worth the lack of sleep.
Tuesday, I officially joined the mid-thirties club turning 35! And I had the wonderful opportunity to enjoy a nice dinner at Puccini's Smiling Teeth with a good friend, her husband, and almost 1 year old little girl. My neighbors wished me a Happy Birthday with some Debbie cakes and a card! My aunt called so my grandmother could wish me a Happy Birthday! And I received calls from another aunt, my brother, and my mom, a text from an old co-worker, several birthday cards, and numerous Facebook messages from a large variety of people!!
Thursday another remarkable day! I received some exciting news, which I will report more on next week. Plus I enjoyed a great evening making desserts with two friends, MPS and AF, for the many weekend events!
Friends and family are such a blessing. As turning 35 neared, I tried to be happy and excited but truly struggled with the fact. But after this week, things have definitely changed and God has blessed me with wonderful friends, family, and direction for the future. Peace is in the air for one remarkable 35th year of life full of great new adventures. I look forward to sharing with you these adventures.

It is a miracle after this weekend that I was actually down. Then again it was just a lot of food in a couple chunks instead of continuous.
No exercise this past week. I did go back to the podiatrist. He gave me a shot in my heel but it really didn't help, it made a nice bruise on the bottom of my foot, and it seems to hurt worse now. Need to call him back tomorrow and see what the next plan is.
One reason for no exercise this week minus walking to the UK basketball game on Tuesday was because I was sick. I had a sore throat the first several days of the week and then this weekend congestion in the head/nose/throat region. I am really hoping it does not move down into the chest over the next few days.
Not sure if there will be much working out this week because I need to put the ornaments on my tree that is standing and looking pretty with the lights on it.
How goes your staying, getting in shape?

Saturday Smiles Veintitres
So much currently runs through my mind about this past week as it has been one interesting filled week.
Sunday was a joyous day catching up with graduate and undergraduate friends. We enjoyed spending time with one another and hearing about each others lives.
Monday unfortunately I started to become ill which continued on throughout the week but mild compared to similar illnesses last winter. I did stay home and rest on Wednesday which I think was a huge help.
Also on Monday, I volunteered to be the adult leader for the church youth leadership team. I challenged the youth on their welcoming and inclusiveness to new youth and volunteers. You could see that it struck an accord but not sure they took it to heart enough to take action. We are really struggling to get them to engage, interact, and take ownership. They want to do but don't want to organize and help it happen. But overall the meeting went well.
Tuesday another great night spent with a friend at the UK basketball game and catching up with his wife and kiddos.
Friday evening was a fun night with all types of folks from church, making and decorating cookies, and then going on a bus to see the Lights Under Louisville at the Mega Caverns. It was a nice display of lights. We had fun reading "A Night Before Christmas" and singing Christmas carols on the way back. Plus we did not have to wait in a long line to go through the caverns. Afterwards, we had some more enjoyable time hanging out and talking before heading home for the evening.
May God Bless you this week!

Global Nativity Scene
4.5 years ago as I ventured out to Ghana, I started another blog, Robin's Global Adventures. Unfortunately, it made it no further than the first post, but I truly hope to resurrect it. In trying to resurrect it, I find it fitting to start with my quest to create a global nativity scene for my primary nativity scene for years to come. To learn more about this quest, check out my post, Global Nativity Scene, there.
Have a blessed Advent season!

Healthier Living: Take 33 8K Edition
Week 33 -- 190.4
Week 32 -- 190.4
--------------
Week 31 -- 190.4 (11.4 lbs in 10 weeks and total of 21 lbs after 30 weeks)
Week 21 -- 201.8 (5.6 lbs in 10 weeks and total of 9.6 lbs after 20 weeks)
Week 11 -- 207.4 (4 lbs after 10 weeks)
Week 1 -- 211.4 pounds (Starting Weight)
Maintaining must be the new goal for the next 10 weeks, which is better than gaining.
Thursday
15 minutes on the bike
One quick arm rep set
15 minutes on the treadmill
Heel had some slight soreness but nothing too intense.
Saturday
Accomplished 8K Reindeer Romp in Brown County in just under an hour 59:20, running and walking.
Mile 1 -- 10:41
Mile 2 -- 23:22 (12:41)
Mile 3 -- 37:14 (13:52)
Mile 4 -- 48:34 (11:20)
Mile 5 -- 59:20 (10:46)
Heel pain was slight during the run but afterwards was quite sore and the same throughout the night. Not as painful as last week but still a fairly continuous pain, therefore headed back to the doctor on Thursday.
Tuesday & Saturday also had a nice walk to and from the IU basketball games.
Another positive note though really wished it would have waited 20 hours, mother nature came a calling Saturday morning on her own. Now I will just have to wait another month to see if it was a fluke or something that may begin to start occurring more regularly. Time will tell.

Saturday Smiles Veintidos
The joys of making a difference in someone's life. How often do we think the things we do our futile?
All it takes is one person, one act of kindness, one caring word, one listening heart to make a difference. Often times, we never learn about the difference that we make nor see how it multiplies to hundreds or even thousands. The times we do hear. We should rejoice and thank God for placing us in their path and guiding us in those words and actions that make a difference.
Though my future is very uncertain, I do know this God has placed me here in this place at this time for a reason. Even if it was to only touch the lives of the two young ladies that join me on Wednesday nights at the church's young professionals group. That one seed planted will build into a big bush to support and help many others to come.
Always remember, God is working through your heart and soul as you go about your daily life. Rejoice in His love and share it with those around you. May God bless you today and always.

Healthier Living: Take 32 Thanksgiving Survival

Last week was rough. After a good run on Monday, Tuesday my right heel was killing me. I went out for a run but the strain on the heel was too much. Therefore, I walked around the circle and back home that was even painful. It bothered me a lot while driving home and back for Thanksgiving as well. Therefore, I pretty much stayed off of it all week and did minimal exercise besides some walking around Black Friday getting some necessities mostly.
This week has not been much better but more to report on that next week. Hopefully, I will have some good news next week as well from the weekend.
I will try not to post so late next week though it is going to be about as crazy as this week was.

Saturday Smiles Veintiuno: Thanks Edition
Special edition of Saturday Smiles for Thanksgiving Week.....
Thanks to our Lord, who kept reminding me this week that He is in control and that I am not alone.
Thanks to my friends, who reached out and touched my life this week, not realizing how much I needed their thoughtfulness.
Thanks to my co-workers, who provided support and continued encouragement for me to push forward.
Thanks to my family, who I have had the opportunity to spend time with this week.
Thanks to my new church friends, who bring a smile to my face so very often.
Thanks to the church youth, who provide hope and inspiration for the future and allow me to hang out and join them in their life's journey.
Thanks to JL, EB, and EJ for listening to me, supporting me, and encouraging me earlier this week as I struggled.
Thanks to AT for helping me get out, be active, and continue to go to the gym.
Thanks to the B's for all their support, care, and friendliness letting me spend time with their family and watch the boys grow.
Thanks to kasclar for the inspiration and encouragement to reflect weekly on what has made me smile and how God has touched my life over the week.
Thanks to all of you who take time out of your week to read, reflect, and occasionally comment on my blog.
Thanks to all who lift me up in prayers. May you all be blessed and know that I too lift you up.
Thanks to God for providing light and darkness, for the animals and the vegetation, for the crisp cool air and the sounds of nature, and for all the people who my path has crossed and whom I have never met but have made a difference in my life through others.
Remember nothing the Lord puts in front of us will be more than we can handle. He has a purpose and mission for our lives. Sometimes we just have stop, step back, and let Him work through us and not try too hard to move His purpose forward to quickly.
Feel free to share you Saturday Smiles and to check out Journal of a Nobody's blog posts.

Wow a very successful 3rd 10 weeks!!! New goal to hit a loss of 30 lbs by week 41. The difficulty here will be the next 6 weeks is full of various celebrations and lots of food.
Lab results are in they are good and bad depending on how you look at it.
Total Cholesterol is still high but down 6 pts from 2 years ago.
Triglycerides are also high though down 46 pts.
LDL's are up 11 and HDL is down 8, which both are not in the positive direction
Glucose remained the same and all the other results were in line with the averages.
With work we are doing this program called Vitality which has a health assessment you are to take annually, it then provides you with an age. The beginning of the year when I took it I was 46. Just now I have dropped down to 41, which is still 6 years more than my actual age.

Thursday lifted arm weights and did about 10 mins on the bike.
Friday 5 mins on the elliptical, 15 mins on the bike, leg weights, 15 mins of jogging on the treadmill
Monday 3 mile run in about 36 minutes.

Saturday Smiles Veinte
The sun shines bright
Bright as the Lords love
Love for all people
People gather together
Together to listen to His word
Word of hope and inspiration
Inspiration to reach
Reach out and touch
Touch someones life
Life full of promise
Promise His gives
Gives to each
Each of us this day!
At work, my computer screen now keeps me smiling as there are two cute little boys (my friends twins) in their swings in the background. Even if they look a bit tired and unsure, the thought of all the joy and happiness they bring so many people including myself makes me smile.
What makes you smile this week and remember God's promise to love and support?
Don't forget to check out Journal of a Nobody's blog and Saturday Smiles posts!

Healthier Living: Take 30
Week 30 -- 193.4 pounds
Week 29 -- 194.8 pounds
Week 28 -- 198.0 pounds
Week 27 -- 196.4 pounds
......
Week 21 -- 201.8 (5.6 lbs in 10 weeks and total of 9.6 lbs after 20 Weeks)
Week 11 -- 207.4 (4 lbs after 10 weeks)
Week 1 -- 211.4 pounds (Starting Weight)
One more week until I hit another 10 weeks complete towards my weight goal and a great past 10 weeks.
Today was one for the record books because I finally went to the doctor here in Louisville and lost weight instead of increasing in weight. First visit was 192.5, last visit was 211, this visit was back down to 194. Now will patiently await my lab results to see how other things are doing. I just hope they got good enough samples as the nurse pricked me not once but twice in the right arm and then a third time in the left arm before she was able to get enough blood for all the tests. The right arm is definitely going to bruise. She told me no heavy lifting for the rest of the day.
Tuesday
3.5 miles on the treadmill jogging and trying out the new running shoes. I really dislike running on treadmills.
Friday
1.5 mile walk with co-worker
3.5 mile walk/jog completing 3.3 miles in 39 minutes which was very exciting
Saturday
2.7 mile walk with my friend and her twin boys. She pushed the stroller most of the time but I finished the walk up pushing them. Plus we walked the boys around the culdesac a couple times in their toy cars.
Monday
A nice walk to Assembly Hall up the stairs to our seats and back to the car. I really need to map that journey sometime to see how long it is. Go Hoosiers!!!!

Saturday Smiles Diecinueve
As I go through my day to day activities and continue to seek God's direction in my life, I have been reminded of His love and support through friends, family, colleagues, and life's happenings.
Life is full of unexpected twists and turns. It is not a picnic, but if we follow His ways and turn our lives over to Him, we will be blessed on our journey.
Evidence of this comes from this Sunday's 1st reading...
"...Elijah said to her, 'Do not be afraid. Go and do as you propose...For the Lord, the God of Israel, says, 'The jar of flour shall not go empty, nor the jug of oil run dry, until the day when the Lord sends rain upon the earth.''...." (1 Kings 17:10-16)
Where does my faith currently lie? To what and where will I go to follow Christ? How do I overcome this fear sitting deep in my heart about the next steps?
Over the past few months, I have been listening to the podcasts of an amazing man and he and his families calling to reach out to the people of this world who do not know God. For Nik and Ruth Ripken, their faith journey has taken them across many miles, through many villages, to learn about the people and share the good news of the Lord. It has been full of struggles and praises. Their work and stories provide hope and inspiration to me and so many others. I look forward to reading Nik's book Insanity of God and continuing to walk in their faith journey. Also, you can check out their video, Insanity of God.

Saturday Smiles Dieciocho
As
the wind howled and the sky spit, a chill filled the air and definitely
made it non-conducive for having to get pictures taken. No matter, I
cleaned up, fixed my hair, put some makeup on, and headed to church for
my church pictorial directory picture.
Upon arriving around 6:35 pm, MR greeted me, checked me in, and offered
for me to sit and chat with her. MR is a lovely lady who attends mass on
Monday evenings and has brought me some delicious veggies from her
garden this summer. She is quite the pleasant
lady and entertaining I quickly learned Tuesday night. Having no one
else to keep me company and the opportunity to get to know MR a bit more
besides our passing at mass on Monday's, I joined her behind the table
and helped her as other folks came and went
for their pictures.
Then it was my turn for pictures. I went in and the gentleman snapped some photos of me and then took me into the room to review, pick my directory picture, and so try to sell me more. I really am not good at the whole picture picking process, two of the pictures for the directory looked nice. I was not sure if I preferred the closer or further away picture so I called MR to go check out the pictures and pick one. She went with the one a bit further out, which is where I was leaning, but the photographer was pushing the closer up. I just stuck with the free page of wallets. Hopefully, mom will like the picture and now be able to update the picture in her wallet.
After all of that, MR and I continued to hang out until everyone was checked in for the night. She technically was supposed to have been replaced by someone, but no one had signed up for the latter shift. We had a lovely time hanging out and talking. I enjoyed my evening with MR and getting to see a few new faces and some old faces that I already knew.
Thursday, I received two emails that brightened my day and very much not expected or necessary. The joy I received from helping out on Tuesday night was thanks enough, but the church administrator in charge of the picture process sent me an email thanking me for helping out. Then later in the day, I received an email from the youth minister that included a note of appreciation for the assistance I provide to that program. Truthfully, the appreciation should go to him and the church for providing me the opportunity to share in this amazing ministry program. Both emails were just what I needed to get through the day and stay focused on the positives of life.
The Lord blesses us in so many ways. May you find time in your busy life to just sit, talk, and help someone out. Don't forget to let others know how much you appreciate and care for them. You never know what difference you will make in their life at the moment or the moments to come.
Thank you for reading this blog and sharing in my journeys!

Health update...
Tuesday, I found out that my right foot has heel spur syndrome. The wonderful heel spur was visible on the x-ray and explains the pain that I have been having in my right heel. Treatment is icing with a frozen water bottle twice a day for 10 minutes, heel cushions, and non-steroid anti-inflammatory.
Additionally, apparently the fatty tissue in my heel is breaking down which does not help the situation and means that I should not get any steroid injections in my foot as the steroids just assist the break down of the fatty tissue causing additional long term issues.
